Demi Lovato is pushing boundaries everyday. Since coming out at non-binary last month, they have been seen rocking the red carpet in a mullet, delivering an Elton John tribute at the iHeartRadio Awards and being involved in interviews promoting living life as your true authentic self. They recently said that it was the patriarchy that has held them back.

Demi Lovato came out as non-binary last month following 'a lot of healing and self-reflective work'.
In a recent interview with Jane Fonda on the Fire Drill Fridays livestream, Lovato said: "If I had listened to the patriarchy, my life would have never changed, my pronouns would have never changed. I probably would have been married to a man with kids doing the thing that I was raised to believe that I should do."
Demi Lovato is a person of many talents..
They rose to fame through Disney Channel, starring in shows such as Sonny With a Chance and the Camp Rock franchise with the Jonas Brothers.
Over the years, the star has been candid with their ongoing battle with substance abuse and mental health issues.
They have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression and an eating disorder. They have also been subject to sexual abuse.
They admitted to being admitted to rehab when they were just 19.
In a now famous interview, the star disclosed their struggles with narcotics. They were then sober for 6 years and a huge advocate for mental health and addiction awareness.
Nevertheless, in 2018, things took a turn for the worse...
Demi was admitted to hospital for a drug overdose, which caused them to suffer three strokes and a heart attack. As a result, they nearly lost their life.
The star discussed the entire event in their four-part documentary Dancing with the Devil.
In it they discussed how their life changed after the overdose. The music video for the song of the same name showed Lovato lay in bed, hooked up to a machine, much like they were in 2018.
They came out as Non-Binary last month in a series of tweets.

They stated that their 2018 overdose was a 'wake up call'. They said: "I feel like the reason why that happened was because I was ignoring my truth, and I was suppressing who I really am in order to please stylists or team members or this or that, or even fans that wanted me to be the sexy, feminine pop star in the leotard and look a certain way, you know?"
They are finally happy and living their true, authentic self.
Lovato said in the interview with Jane Fonda: "After years of living my life for other people, trying to make myself smaller for the patriarchy – they run the industry, they are at the centre of everything. When I realised that, I thought, 'What are the ways that the patriarchy has been holding me back?'. And for me, it was putting me in a box telling [me], 'You are a female, this is what you're supposed to like, this is what you're supposed to do, don't dream bigger and don't speak louder."
