Baby Left With Nasty Cut Across Her Face After C-Section

Last week, a mother was left distraught after she realized her baby was left with a disfiguring scar across her cheek following an emergency cesarean section.
Baby Kyanni had to have thirteen stitches in her left cheek following birth.
Kyanni's grandfather Walter Williams told Fox 31, "To have your granddaughter born to come out to see the plastic surgeon, to get thirteen stitches, is devastating, it's heartbreaking."

The family, from Denver, Colorado, is understandably devastated.
Father, Damarqus Williams said, "It's upsetting, she's not comfortable."
Caesarean section use continues to rise 📈 globally, now accounting for more than 1 in 5 of all childbirths.

While mother Reazjhana Williams is still trying to understand what happened to make everything go so wrong.
"I tried to be understanding about what happened, but on top of the fact her face got cut and a plastic surgeon had to come to do it, there's just a lot of things I'm not understanding with the C-section. I've never heard of anybody having to deal with their baby's face looking like this after a C-section."
Mother Reazjhana originally planned to give birth naturally and was given a pill while in hospital to speed up her labour.

However, she was then rushed into surgery where they began to perform an emergency C-section.
Damarqus explained, "They said our baby made a sudden movement they couldn't hear her heartbeat or find it and they took her into an immediate C-section."
Despite doctors telling the new parents that their baby's head was close to the placenta wall, they went ahead with the C-section. When baby Kyanni was born, the Williams were heartbroken at seeing the mess of her cheek.
Grandmother Tashaira Williams is now demanding doctors be held accountable for the slash.
That’s cause it’s a business & they just wanna get in/out like it’s a factory & not a persons life.

She told Fox 31, "I don't think that's right. They have to be held accountable for what they did."
In a statement, Denver Health said, "Denver Health has been in touch with the family directly. While this is a known medical complication in emergency C-sections, our focus is always on providing care in the best interest of the mother and child."
While it is very rare for a baby to be cut during a C-section, it's not unheard of.

Back in September 2020, a newborn in Russia was left with a cut across her cheek after an emergency C-Section.
According to the Russian media, the new mum was told by medics her newborn baby "shouldn't have moved too much" during the procedure.
A Cesarean section, also known as a C-section, is a surgical procedure where one, or more babies are delivered through an incision in the mother's abdomen, often performed when they cannot be born naturally through the birth canal. The World Health Organization recommends that a cesarean section only be performed when necessary.
