Bill Gates Gave Melinda $1.8 Billion in Stocks on Day Divorced Was Filed

In the days following Bill and Melinda Gates' shock divorce announcement, new reports are outlining the handsome figure Bill bestowed on his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Here's the full story...
Now, the news of the elusive couple's divorce this week has sent shockwaves all across the world.

Bill and Melinda have been married since 1994, and they have accomplished a hell of a lot together, including setting up the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to reduce poverty and enhance healthcare in the United States.
They're also known for being incredibly generous...

Having donated hundreds of millions of dollars over the years to numerous charities and organizations around the world.
However, behind closed doors, things weren't as idyllic as they seemed.

On Monday, May 3rd, Bill announced that he and Melinda will be getting divorced.
Sharing a statement across their social platforms, the couple wrote this:
— Bill Gates (@BillGates) May 3, 2021
"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life."
Of course, speculation surrounding the end of their marriage has been rife...

Though the majority of people have been talking about one thing and one thing only - their assets.

Bill and Melinda Gates are getting a divorce and I can’t even begin to think about the prenup they must have set in place... 😳

Bill and Melinda Gates have no prenup. Let that sink in for a second.

Bill Gates is worth about $130 billion; the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has about $50 billion in assets. Financial details of the split are not known, but the settlement could set records.

It's no secret that the couple accumulated a vast wealth throughout the duration of their marriage.

Bill Gates is one of the world's richest billionaires, with Wealth-X, a global high net worth intelligence and data company, estimating his net worth to be at least $134.1 billion.
Though his success began with Microsoft, his shares in the company now only represent 19.6% of his wealth...

Much of his money is now tied to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, but the exact amount hasn't been disclosed.
Because of the Foundation, the division of assets between Bill and Melinda may be much more complicated.

Court documents show that they have a separation agreement, but terms have not been made public.
There's reportedly no prenup between the pair...

Which means a 50/50 split of assets is more than likely.
But now, it has just emerged that on the day their divorce was announced, Bill bestowed an eyewatering sum upon his soon-to-be ex-wife.

On May 3rd, Bill's investment vehicle, Cascade Investment, allegedly transferred $1.8 billion worth of stocks to Melinda, according to SEC filings.
According to Forbes, it means that Melinda is now worth at least that amount...

With Bill's worth falling - ever so slightly - to $128.6 billion.
But even after the transfer, the Microsoft co-founder remains the fourth richest person in the world.
