'The Goldbergs' Star George Segal Dies Aged 87
The sad news has come in today that George Segal has passed away at the age of eighty-seven, a statement from his family has confirmed.
And fans and former colleagues from all around the world have been left both shocked and saddened by this sudden loss.
Tributes have come pouring in.

George Segal was the last surviving cast member of Mike Nichols's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which was just one highlight of a long, varied, interesting career. He was a favorite of Nichols, who also cast him in the play The Knack, and it was an honor to interview him. RIP.

Now, George Segal first gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s for playing both dramatic and comedic roles.
Some of his most acclaimed roles were in films such as Ship of Fools (1965), King Rat (1965), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), The St. Valentine's Day Massacre (1967), Where's Poppa? (1970), The Hot Rock (1972), Blume in Love (1973), and A Touch of Class (1973).
The New York City-born actor was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?...
And he won 2 Golden Globe Awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance in A Touch of Class.
And when it came to television, Segal was best known for his roles as Jack Gallo on Just Shoot Me! (1997–2003)...
And, of course, as Albert "Pops" Solomon on The Goldbergs (2013–2021).
He was one of the first American film actors to rise to leading man status with an unchanged Jewish surname...
Thus helping to pave the way for artists such as Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand.
So, all in all...
George Segal was a very well-respected and very much loved actor in Hollywood.
Which is what makes today's news all the more heartbreaking.
Segal's wife, Sonia, has confirmed to Deadline that he sadly passed away on March 23rd.
The family have been left shocked by this sudden passing.
"The family is devastated to announce that this morning George Segal passed away due to complications from bypass surgery," Ms. Segal said.
Segal underwent the heart surgery earlier this week...
And the details surrounding the complications are currently unknown.
Rest in Peace, George Segal.
