After the United States reached a grim milestone of 500,000 COVID deaths, less than two weeks ago, a Burn The Mask rally in Idaho is making headlines - as children have been pictured throwing their face masks into fire.

Now, every one of us has had to deal with the challenges 2020 threw at us...

Places are reopening, restrictions are being lifted...

But despite the positive changes, there are still some precautions we all have to take...

In fact, some precautions are becoming mandatory in some places.
In the majority of states and in many countries, it has become mandatory to wear a face mask or covering.
Although some people have been choosing to wear a face-covering regardless...
To provide them with peace of mind.I haven't been outdoors without a #facemask in 202 days.

Wear your masks, friends ❤️#Bogota pic.twitter.com/szeH4aN40z
But the issue that many people have discovered is how uncomfortable face masks can be...
Especially when they are worn for a long period of time.
This has resulted in some people simply refusing to wear them, or all together, mocking the importance of wearing a mask.
Despite this, health experts have stressed their importance over and over again.
Healthline describes them as "crucial in the fight against the pandemic." They stressed that this rule is to protect others and not yourself. Wearing a mask reduces the transmission of the disease by at least half.Face coverings are critical to stopping the spread of #COVID19, so we have updated our guidance to include information on fit, layering and who should wear higher grade masks. But no matter which covering you choose, it's most important to keep wearing it: https://t.co/ZzNcH3PS8H pic.twitter.com/ZUjRbqBiht

You'd think the pros would outweigh the cons, right?
And it's these people who have undoubtedly contributed to the length of this terrible pandemic.
When will people learn?!
Well, it seems as if these "anti-maskers" aren't happy with one of the latest medical updates...
Because it looks like the masks are here to stay!
Two weeks ago, the United States revealed they had neared 500,000 COVID deaths...

And the news of this staggering number is simply unfathomable.
A memorial event was carried out by President Biden and the White House...
Overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic needs to be our top priority as a nation. I joined members of my team to talk about our plan to get it done. https://t.co/LIiwFrwKRc

Where they held a moment of silence for those lives lost.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters:
"The president will use his own voice and platform to take a moment to remember the people whose lives have been lost, the families who are still suffering ... at what is still a very difficult moment in this country."
Dr. Anthony Fauci, White House COVID-19 medical adviser and the nation's top infectious disease official, also spoke of this grim milestone.
"It's nothing like we've ever been through in the last 102 years since the 1918 influenza pandemic. ... It really is a terrible situation that we've been through - and that we're still going through," he said, as per Reuters.
While the decline "is really terrific ... we are still at a level that's very high," Dr. Fauci then said on NBC's Meet the Press program.
"We want to get that baseline really, really, really low before we start thinking that we're out of the woods."
And then...
Dr. Fauci suggested that Americans will be needing to wear face masks until 2022.
He explained that masks will still be needed, regardless of other measures coming into place to prevent the spread of the virus...
And of course, the distribution of the vaccine won't alter this fact in the slightest.
But the latest news is truly terrifying.
And it's to do with the #BurnTheMask rally in Idaho this weekend - which saw countless children, yes children, throwing masks into a fire, encouraged by grown ups.
The rally was organized in part by by Idaho State Representatives.
More specifically, Dorothy Moon and Heather Scott, who organized the event earlier this week in a joint video they filmed.
It makes for sad viewing, as the kids, who obviously don't know better, are encouraged to throw their masks into the flames...
Let's hope that more people get onboard with wearing masks...
Because ultimately, they will save so many lives.
